what are your hybrid cloud or multi cloud use cases

What happened: Cloud data management solutions provider NetApp has released its 2023 Cloud Complexity Report , which explores how global technology decision-makers navigate the complexity of multi-cloud environments while highlighting the challenges and best practices driving optimal business outcomes.

NetApp conducted this quantitative research study with Virginia-based market research firm Wakefield Research. 1,300 tech and data executives in the U.S., France, Germany, Spain, the U.K., India, Japan, Singapore, Australia, and New Zealand were surveyed for this study.

What the numbers say: 98% of the global tech executives surveyed report various impacts on their business due to the increasing complexity of data across the cloud. The top most reported business impacts are increased cybersecurity risk (45%), increased skepticism over cloud from leadership (44%), staff not taking full advantage of business applications (44%), going over budget (37%), and burning out staff (31%).

When it comes to cost savings, the researchers found that skepticism from organizational leaders is prevalent across markets. CFOs and other business leaders in India were the most skeptical, with 59% being either "very skeptical" or "extremely skeptical" about realizing cost savings from moving to the cloud.

A 2022 report from U.K.-based computer programming company Canonical reveals that among 1,300 IT professionals surveyed, the most commonly reported hybrid cloud or multi-cloud use cases were to accelerate development and automate DevOps (22.1%), disaster recovery (15.1%), and to expand cloud backup options to cut costs (15.1%).

Relevance: Several cloud and SaaS companies recognize the issues associated with multi-cloud adoption and have therefore released solutions designed to help organizations cope with these challenges. Some of these solutions include SaaS startup emma's multi-cloud management platform, CloudZero's multi-cloud cost intelligence platform, LaceWork's multi-cloud security platform, and many others.

Brands that should care: Any enterprise or organization using a multi-cloud strategy should be mindful of the complexities of maintaining and managing these environments. Moreover, it is likely more than worth it to invest in multi-cloud cost management and security platforms or even all-in-one solutions such as IBM's MCMP that purport to reduce all of these complexities. These can save an organization time, money, resources, and stress in the long run.
